Is it really shingles?

I went to a dermatologist and he told me it was shingles, he only saw it and say it. im 15 and it doesnt hurt it only itches a lot. The rash begins from the back and goes to my belly like a pattern. He prescribed me some medicines but if is not shingles what happens if i use them?
