Is Peru safe for a 25 year old girl to travel alone? ?

I am a 25 year old new yorker and am planning on traveling to Peru alone. My mother is scaring the **** out of me telling me i will be kidnapped. I am smart enough to dodge the pickpockets, but will my life be in danger? I want to go to Lima, Cusco, and MacchuPiccu.
