What is your opinion on the president's new support for offshore drilling?
Personally, I was originally completely set against Offshore Drilling. I "basically" still am. I think that the best way to put it would be "We have 3% of the world's oil reserves, and we use 25% of the world's oil. So what that means is that we can't simply drill our way out of the problem. and we're not going to be able to deal with the climate crisis, if our only solution is to use more fossil fuels that create global warming." I think that that would explain my view in more ways than one. I had hoped that he would keep your campaign promises, and believe me, I have fully supported him up till now. I also have tried to look at it from your perspective. this may be a way to gain bi-partisan support, and that could be a great thing, as it would be wonderful to avoid another year-long deate, and end up just barely winning the fight, with your own support greatly diminished in the process. I think he should also consider how much support will be lost on the liberal/democratic side as well. I hope that before he enacts any real legislation, he consider the long-term effects. From my own personal research, it seems that most sources say that the drilling would only gain a few months of energy for america. that's why I think that raising fuel efficiency standards and encouraging more American production of solar and wind farms, and also hydrogen and electric powered vehicles would be the best solution for energy independence, as they promote more permanent independence, as well as being much better for the environment. What's your perspective on it?
