yes it will need supporting,as the rest of chimney will still be up in attic,its not a small job and you should contact a GOOD builder,its going to take accro props and an RSJ to take the weight,then you will need to fill in hole where chimney used to be,theres a lot more to it than you think,good luck.[and its going to be DIRTY]
