Do dogs really have silent heats?

My Rott is 8 yrs old and i havent seen her go into heat in about a year, can she still be having heat or stopped altogether? i only bred her once, and i would love to have a puppy of hers before something happens to her. i have a 7 mth Rott but if it doesnt happen it doesnt.. so is there really silent heat?
